Oana loves to hike, and with the base of the Pyrenees just an hour from her door, she is grateful that she has a job that lets her work from anywhere.
Oana is a translator who speaks English, French and Romanian, and she lives in a small town in southern France. She loves getting up early and watching the sun rise over the Pyrenees mountains (she can see them from her living room window), and she's also a big fan of reading, gardening and road trips.
Oana is learning Spanish right now, and rather than using a book or course, she's planning on spending more time in Spain and immersing herself in the culture.
"Some people describe translation as the image you get when you put your source text in front of a mirror," Oana adds."I sometimes like to picture it as the echo of your voice in a beautiful valley in the mountains."
"One of the best things about languages and translation is seeing, perceiving and understanding the world through other nations’ eyes," Oana says.
"Translators are not dictionaries, and speaking two or more languages fluently does not necessarily qualify you for translation. It's a lot of hard work, skills, some talent and most certainly passion."
While walking around Ise, Ena kept wandering towards the flowers, clearly captivated by the colors and shapes. "Don't touch, Ena." Nao gently cautioned. "It's important to respect nature and make sure others can enjoy it too."
"I turn on my laptop, make coffee, start the fireplace and I do my best not to miss the sunrise," she says of her routine when she's at home.
"I think translation, just like any other form of traveling, opens new perspectives, pushes the horizon further and further away, giving you more freedom."
Oana has been a translator for 20 years, and for her, language isn't just a job. It's a passion.
