NEW YORK — April 11, 2022 – Smartling, the enterprise-grade translation platform company, today announced the appointment of Bryan Murphy as CEO.
Murphy will oversee all aspects of growth and development at Smartling, including advancing its full-stack technological platform and continuing the growth of the company as a turnkey solution for enterprise-grade localization.
This announcement comes on the heels of a $160 million growth investment from Battery Ventures in December 2021. Smartling’s founder, Jack Welde, will remain with the company and assume a critical leadership role as President focusing on product development and strategy. Welde will also continue serving on the Board of Directors.
With more than 20 years of global leadership experience in SaaS and eCommerce, Murphy brings a growth-minded skillset to Smartling that will drive the company to new verticals and significantly expand its current markets. Formerly Murphy was the VP of Vertical Markets at eBay and CEO and Co-Founder of WHI, a SaaS company, acquired by ebay in 2012. He has also served as CEO of Breather and as President of Digital for Serta Simmons. Murphy also serves or has served on the boards of a number of Private Equity and Venture backed businesses.
Delivering an enterprise-grade localization strategy
“Smartling’s job is to be a trusted growth partner to help global brands truly deliver local customer experiences, more efficiently and effectively. Our enterprise-grade platform has been able to cut the time-to-market for our customers like IHG Hotels & Resorts, Shopify, and Lyft by up to 90% compared to traditional translation solutions and deliver up to 60% cost savings,” said Bryan Murphy, CEO of Smartling.
“What excites me about Smartling is that we solve a major problem that I myself have faced as we looked to grow internationally. Traditional processes are slow and manual - expensive and error prone. Smartling’s Translation management application, automated connectivity across most devices and platforms, and guaranteed quality translations enable our customers to dramatically reduce their time to market and cost at scale.
The future of Translation is Smartling’s Artificial Intelligence technology platform, combined with our world-class translator network. The cost and pain of translating and localizing have led companies to translate only some of their content, limiting growth and market reach. Smartling focuses on the importance of translating and localizing at scale— making the translation process simpler, higher quality and more cost-effective for all customers.
“We’re extremely fortunate to have welcomed Bryan, someone with a track record and leadership as impressive as his, as Smartling’s leader,” said Welde. “In just a few months’ time I’ve had the chance to get to know and work with Bryan, he has already demonstrated the leadership with character that I believe every Smartling customer and employee can truly trust and rely on. I very much look forward to seeing his vision for Smartling come to life in the days to come.”
