NEW YORK – November 29, 2017 – Smartling, a translation technology and services innovator, today announced that it has become a platinum sponsor of Translators without Borders, a U.S.-based non-profit organization committed to raising awareness of language barriers and to providing people with access to critical knowledge and information in their native language.
Since 2011, Translators without Borders has translated more than 50 million words in excess of 250 language pairs in the areas of crisis relief, health and education. The organization has responded to urgent crises by using its Words of Relief service, working with partners, to provide vital information in the appropriate languages to those affected by emergencies such as the Ebola crisis, and the Rohingya refugee crisis. Words of Relief ensures better communications with communities when crisis responders and affected populations do not speak the same language.
“We’re pleased to pledge our financial support for Translators without Borders as the organization continues to ensure that more people around the world can access knowledge in their language,” said Juliana Pereira, Vice President of Marketing for Smartling. “We look forward to assisting Translators without Borders as this critically important non-profit group continues to provide people in need with vital and often life-saving information in a language they can understand.”
The financial support provided by sponsors is paramount to sustaining and growing Translators without Borders and extending their services to people in regions suffering from humanitarian crises.
“Translators without Borders is thrilled to welcome Smartling, a company that’s widely recognized and highly regarded for its translation innovation and services,” explained Translators without Borders Executive Director Aimee Ansari. “There’s a huge need for the most vulnerable to be able to access knowledge in a language they understand. While mobile technology brings more people information, Smartling and our other sponsors help us bridge the ‘language last mile’. We are incredibly grateful to Smartling for this assistance, which is critical to enable us, in turn, to support more humanitarian work around the globe.”
